Uncle AI ("we," "us," or "our") operates the website askuncleai.com and the Uncle AI home maintenance assistant (the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices regarding that information.

1. Information We Collect

Account information. When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, and a password. You may optionally provide your street address, city, state, ZIP code, the year your home was built, and your DIY comfort level. Renters may provide their property manager's name and a key code to link their account to a property management subscription.

Repair and diagnostic data. When you use the Uncle AI diagnostic assistant, we collect the information you share about your home problem — including descriptions, photos (if uploaded), and your responses to diagnostic questions. We store your repair history so you can track issues over time.

Payment information. If you subscribe to a paid plan (property manager tier), payment is processed by Stripe, Inc. We do not store your credit card number, bank account number, or other payment instrument details on our servers. Stripe's privacy policy governs the handling of your payment data.

Usage data. We automatically collect information about how you interact with the Service, including pages visited, features used, time spent on pages, scroll depth, and button clicks. We use Google Analytics (GA4) for this purpose.

Device and browser data. We collect standard technical information including your IP address, browser type, operating system, device type, and referring URL. This information is collected by our analytics and hosting providers.

Contractor applicant data. If you apply to join the Uncle AI Pro network, we collect your name, email, phone number, trade specialties, service area, license information, and insurance details.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

Provide, maintain, and improve the Uncle AI diagnostic assistant and repair guides
Personalize your experience based on your home details and repair history
Process payments and manage property manager subscriptions
Connect you with licensed contractors through the Uncle AI Pro network when you indicate you need professional help
Send you service-related communications (account confirmations, repair follow-ups, product updates)
Analyze usage patterns to improve our guides and diagnostic accuracy
Detect, prevent, and address fraud, abuse, or technical issues

3. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only in the following circumstances:

Service providers. We share data with third-party providers who help us operate the Service, including Supabase (database and authentication), Stripe (payment processing), Google (analytics), and Netlify (hosting). These providers are contractually obligated to use your information only to provide services to us.
Property managers. If you are a tenant linked to a property management company through a key code, your property manager can see your name, unit, and repair request history — but not your private diagnostic conversations with Uncle AI.
Contractor dispatch. If you request a professional through the Uncle AI Pro network, we share your name, contact information, address, and the relevant repair issue with the dispatched contractor.
Legal requirements. We may disclose information if required by law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request.
Business transfers. If Uncle AI is acquired, merged, or sold, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you before your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

4. Amazon Affiliate Links

Our Fix It Guides contain links to tools and parts on Amazon.com. These links include an affiliate tag (uncleai-20). When you click an Amazon link and make a purchase, Uncle AI earns a small commission at no additional cost to you. Amazon's privacy policy governs any data collected through those links. We do not receive your Amazon purchase details — only aggregate commission reports.

5. Cookies and Tracking

We use Google Analytics (GA4) to understand how visitors use our site. GA4 uses first-party cookies and does not share data with other Google advertising products by default. You can opt out of Google Analytics by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

We use essential cookies for authentication (to keep you logged in) and session management. These are necessary for the Service to function and cannot be disabled.

6. Data Retention

We retain your account information and repair history for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal information within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal, accounting, or fraud prevention purposes.

Analytics data is retained according to Google Analytics' default retention settings (currently 14 months).

7. Data Security

We use commercially reasonable measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), secure authentication through Supabase, and access controls for internal systems. No method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Your Rights and Choices

Access and correction. You can access and update your account information through your profile page at any time.

Account deletion. You can request deletion of your account and associated data by emailing privacy@askuncleai.com.

Marketing communications. You can unsubscribe from marketing emails using the unsubscribe link in any email. Service-related communications (account security, billing) are not optional.

California residents (CCPA). California residents have the right to know what personal information is collected, request deletion, and opt out of the sale of personal information. We do not sell personal information. To exercise your rights, contact privacy@askuncleai.com.

9. Children's Privacy

Uncle AI is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

10. AI-Generated Content

Uncle AI uses artificial intelligence to provide home repair diagnoses and guidance. The diagnostic conversations you have with Uncle AI are processed by AI systems. We may use anonymized and aggregated diagnostic data to improve our AI models and repair guides. We do not use your personal information (name, address, etc.) to train AI models.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by posting the updated policy on this page with a revised "Last updated" date. Your continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
